Wednesday Warning: Prepping Your East Valley Pool for Tomorrow’s Rain and a 97°F Weekend

If you’ve stepped outside today in Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, or Gilbert, you’ve probably noticed the change. The sky is filled with those high, thin clouds, and the humidity is creeping up just enough to make things feel "sticky."

In the East Valley, this is our classic "Wednesday Warning."

We have a 20-30% chance of rain hitting tomorrow (Thursday). While a little desert rain sounds refreshing, it can be a nightmare for your pool chemistry. Especially because the forecast is calling for a beautiful 97°F weekend. If you don't prep today, you might spend your Saturday morning scrubbing algae instead of lounging in the water.

At Complete Aquatic Solutions, we want to help you stay ahead of the weather. Here is your minimalist guide to prepping your pool today so you can enjoy the heat this weekend.

1. Why High Clouds Mean Work for Your Pentair Rebel

Those high clouds aren't just for show; they often bring light wind and "monsoon-lite" dust. Even a small amount of dust can settle on your pool floor and provide a buffet for algae.

If you have a Pentair Rebel Suction-Side Cleaner, today is the day to make sure it’s running. The Rebel is a workhorse in the East Valley because its SmartTrac™ steering allows it to navigate tight corners and deep-to-shallow transitions that other cleaners miss.

Pro Tip: Let the Rebel run for a full cycle today. You want the floor of your pool perfectly clean before the rain hits. Raindrops can trap airborne pollutants and drive them deep into your water. If your floor is already dusty, the rain will just "glue" that dirt down, making it harder to clean later.

2. Check Your "Buffering Capacity" with the Taylor K-2006

Most DIYers focus solely on Chlorine and pH. But when rain is in the forecast for Mesa or Chandler, the most important number is your Total Alkalinity (TA).

Think of Alkalinity as the "bodyguard" for your pH. Rain in Arizona is often acidic or carries pollutants that can cause your pH to "bounce" or crash. If your Alkalinity is too low, the rain will cause your pH to drop rapidly, which can irritate your skin and even damage your pool equipment.

This is why we recommend the Taylor K-2006 Test Kit. Unlike cheap test strips that give you a "vague" color match, the K-2006 uses a titration method (counting drops) to give you an exact reading.

The Prep Goal: Use your K-2006 today to check your TA. You want it between 80-120 ppm. If it’s in that range, your pool has the "buffering capacity" to handle tomorrow's rain without the chemistry going haywire.

3. The 97°F Weekend: Why Today’s Baseline Matters

Why the urgency? Because Saturday is going to hit 97°F.

Heat is a catalyst. If tomorrow's rain drops your chlorine levels and shifts your pH, the 97°F sun on Friday and Saturday will act like an incubator for algae. A pool that looks "a little cloudy" on Thursday night will be "pea soup green" by Saturday afternoon if the chemistry isn't locked in today.

By establishing a rock-solid baseline today: clean floor, balanced alkalinity, and a healthy chlorine level: you are creating a "shield" that protects your pool through the rain and into the heatwave.

4. Need Help with the Math? Meet Your Virtual Tech

If the rain hits harder than expected and your pool looks a bit dull on Friday morning, don't guess how much "shock" or acid to add.

We’ve built a specialized tool for our East Valley neighbors: the CAS Pool Pro AI (Virtual Service Technician).

Whether you are in San Tan Valley or Mesa, you can plug in your pool's current readings from your Taylor K-2006, and our AI will calculate the exact dosages you need to get back to "weekend-ready" status. It’s like having one of our certified pros standing right there on the pool deck with you.

Quick Wednesday Checklist for East Valley Homeowners:

    • Empty the Skimmer Baskets: Do this today. If the wind picks up tonight, you don't want your baskets overflowing.
    • Run the Cleaner: Get that Pentair Rebel moving to clear the pre-storm dust.
    • Test the Water: Use the Taylor K-2006 to ensure your Alkalinity is at least 80 ppm.
    • Check the Water Level: If your pool is already high, you might want to drain an inch or two to account for tomorrow's rain.
