30 minutes

Tools Needed

  • Pool brush
  • Test kit
  • Vacuum

Parts Needed

  • Shock treatment
  • Algaecide
  • pH adjuster
  • Clarifier (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Why Pools Turn Green

Green water indicates algae growth due to insufficient sanitization or imbalanced chemistry.

Step 1: Test Water Chemistry

Check pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels. Adjust pH to 7.2-7.6 first.

Step 2: Brush Pool Surfaces

Vigorously brush all walls, floor, and steps to break up algae colonies.

Step 3: Shock the Pool

Add 2-3 times normal shock dose. For severe cases, add up to 10 ppm chlorine.

Step 4: Run Filter Continuously

Run filter 24 hours until water clears. Backwash or clean filter frequently.

Step 5: Add Algaecide

After shocking, add algaecide following product instructions for your pool size.

Step 6: Vacuum Debris

Once water clears, vacuum dead algae to waste if possible.
