First identify whether water comes from a union seal, threaded fitting, glued joint or cracked component. Smearing cement over an assembled leaking joint is not a dependable replacement for a proper repair.
Document before cutting
- Photograph the leak and entire nearby plumbing layout. Record whether it appears with the pump running, stopped or both. Note water near electricity and stop use if electrical safety is uncertain.
- Identify pipe material, nominal size, accessible markings and equipment models. Record valves and flow direction without changing unknown valve positions.
- Have the repairer determine the correct isolation and pressure-relief procedure. A pump stop button alone does not prevent automatic restart.
Plan a sound joint
Select pressure-rated compatible pipe/fittings and the specified primer/cement for material, diameter and conditions. Weld-On’s method requires sound fit, square/deburred preparation, clean dry surfaces and complete socket engagement. Damaged or poorly fitting components need replacement rather than additional glue.
Allow cure before pressure
Initial set time is not full pressure-ready cure time. Use the exact product’s cure table for pipe diameter, temperature, humidity and expected pressure, measured from the last joint. Do not adopt a universal 15-minute restart. Do not pressure-test solvent-welded PVC/CPVC with compressed air or gas.
Verification and boundaries
A qualified repairer should verify the repair under the appropriate water pressure and recheck normal operation. Underground lines require leak location and utility/site assessment before excavation. Keep photos, material/product details and cure/commissioning records so a recurring leak can be traced.
