Replacing a Pool Pump Motor

Safety First

Always turn off power at the breaker before working on pool equipment. Verify power is off with a voltage tester.

Step 1: Drain the Pump

Close valves before and after the pump. Remove drain plugs to empty water from pump housing.

Step 2: Disconnect Electrical

Remove motor cover and document wire connections with photos. Disconnect all wires from motor.

Step 3: Remove Old Motor

Unbolt motor from pump housing. Carefully separate motor from seal plate.

Step 4: Install New Motor

Attach new motor to seal plate ensuring proper alignment. Bolt securely to pump housing.

Step 5: Reconnect Electrical

Wire new motor matching documented connections. Ensure tight connections and proper grounding.

Step 6: Test Operation

Prime pump, open valves, and restore power. Check for leaks and proper operation.
